A taste of Turgutries– join me at the farmer's market.

Two weeks ago, I moved to a beautiful town on the turquoise coast of Turkey. Join me as I explore my new local farmers’ market.

Markets (I think) are the best places to get to know a new city or culture or cuisine. I moved to Turgutries, which is on the West Coast of Turkey (across the sea from Athens) on March 1st. This weekend, I finally got to take a trip to my local weekly farmer’s market. I was blown away by all of the beautiful food and interesting people. I can’t wait until I’m more fluent in Turkish so I’m able to connect with them more.

Something encouraging– people LOVED getting their photo taken, so I’m really excited to go back and spend more time taking photos and less time shopping.

We’re often out to dinner so what I got mostly was for snacking and breakfast– to pair with thick, Turkish yogurt, labne and honey. And while I was shopping, I got to snack on the thinnest grilled bread (almost like lavash or a tortilla) with mixed greens and cheese. It was warm and light and perfect for a chilly market visit.

More on this new home of mine soon!

Here’s what I brought home–

Clementines (for juicing and eating)

Spices (for me and to give as gifts to friends)

Dried Figs (to eat with walnuts)

Tomatoes

Spicy greens to have with breakfast

Herbs / Tea

Spicy tomato paste

Peppers

Stuffed Grape Leaves

Dried tomatoes

Sending you love,
