A mental shift that has been keeping me alive.

As we navigate choppy waters, dark moments or even just in periods of intense emotional growth, support becomes increasingly crucial– and that includes from ourselves. Here’s something that has been helping me through my own moments of intense growth.

I’m not shy about talking about the emotional struggles I’ve had while running my own business. And I get many messages that encourage me to share. They’re usually from other people who benefit from not feeling alone or wrong when they’re struggling, too. And some are from people who even decide that having a coach or therapist before diving into the waters of business ownership is a good idea. And I am 100% on board with that.

In periods of growth, the ground can become shaky. What we believed would work doesn’t anymore. The support systems we used to have might be gone. The self we thought we knew is changing, sometimes dramatically. This can be terribly overwhelming and confusing and scary.

Here’s something I heard the universe whisper to me today– “God is working so hard to heal you.”

I’m not a religious person, so God just refers to our creator, whoever they are. And THEY wanted me to know that much of the internal work I’m doing right now is meant to heal me. All the things that are coming my way (podcasts, people, circumstances, books, social media posts, kisses from my nephews, strangers on the street, potential clients, etc.)– it is ALL here to help me shift in a very profound way.

This thought right there came from within me. I didn’t read it somewhere. No one told it to me. I’m just so alive and awake in my life (a little too much in fight or flight for my body’s typical comfort level) that these thoughts come to me clear as day. I find that I’m a beacon for what I need to survive this period.

And this period feels BRUTAL. I won’t lie. Anxiety. Fear. Overwhelm. Sometimes even despair.

What this thought does for me is help me release much of the pent-up negative feelings that are piling up in my body. And THAT has saved my life.

When you’re going through a bout of anxiety that feels that there is no end, despair is what creeps in. I’ll speak for myself because I’m not a medical professional. But a laugh, a cry, any kind of meaningful emotional movement helps me. And I’ve had to learn to do this on my own, not because I don’t have humans in my life but because it is imperative to my life to continue to practice this.

I often do this work with my clients, and I call it Emotional Cleansing, because I find it to be immensely easier to do this with another human. It’s also something I practice with my own coaches. The human to human connection is so important. And the human-spirit connection can be equally important.

So, whatever you’re going through, you’re not alone.

And maybe, just maybe, this growth is divinely sent for your own beautiful growth.

Always on your side,

xo, s
