From day job to her own business– the steps we took in Year One of Coaching.

Your jump from working a full time day job to your own business will no-doubt be an individual journey, but here is a look at how one of my clients did just that.

First, I want to preface this with a few thoughts–

  • Your journey is your own because everyone is different and has a very different set of circumstances

  • No one knows what is better for you than you

  • You, like all of us, have absorbed lots of socialized thinking that will get in the way of your clarity and action

  • Taking care of your self is the most important part of this process

  • There is no ‘easy button’ when it comes to changing your life in this way

  • Your desire to make this easy, fast and cheap is just your brain’s belief that you can’t handle the process of true change, but it’s wrong about you. You’re stronger than you think. And you also deserve a less toxic, more nurturing experience on your way to a different life experience, whatever it is that you’re hoping to create.

  • The work you do in this time with me is work that will serve you for the rest of your life and it can be applied to any circumstance in your life when you desire to make a change or create something new or evolve. Use it to make more money, get a new job, improve your relationship, change a relationship dynamic, develop your next product or project, tackle an overwhelming home project– solve for your own confusion around anything.

The backstory is one that many of us can relate to—

My client approached me with a desire to break free from the confines of traditional employment and create a life on her own terms. The catch? She had no idea what that work would actually look like. After dedicating 15 years to a job where she had seen numerous promotions, she found herself stuck in a cycle of dread, anxiety, and dissatisfaction. She was / is successful. But she wanted something different.

In that moment, she stood at a crossroads—

Tired, not quite fulfilled, too much anxiety, confused about what to do solve any of it, frustrated that even though she is successful she couldn’t solve for this…..

AND

knowing that she could achieve something big, brimming with capabilities, aware that she craved something different, and ready to embrace some sort of change.

We often find ourselves occupying both ends of the spectrum—simultaneously scared yet certain that we yearn for a different path. We feel excitement tinged with confusion. We battle anxiety while nurturing a flicker of hope. We exhaust ourselves, not from pursuing our true passions, but from grappling with the uncertainty of which step to take next. We possess an abundance of capability, but we're unsure of where to begin.

Now, let me provide you with a broad overview of the transformative work we embarked on together during that crucial first year of our partnership. If I'm being completely honest, it was she who did the bulk of the heavy lifting, while I served as her steadfast ally, offering encouragement, support, and guidance to help her stay the course.

And now, I share this journey with you, hoping it can shed light on your own path if you find yourself in a similar spot.

COACHING STRUCTURE
The structure of our work together is 1 call per week. And there’s flexibility there because we’re working together longer term. She began with a 6 month package and has extended it twice, so we’ve been meeting consistently for 18 months now. So even if she misses a meeting, there’s much less pressure than when I was coaching for 6 weeks only. Missing one felt like a big loss or a stress. So, that’s one of the many reasons I do my 1-on-1 coaching this way. People are very busy. And I want my clients to prioritize themselves. If they have to cancel, that’s totally fine. I’m with them for the long haul.

Great news, I still have ONE SPOT LEFT in this monthly (lots-of-personal-access-to-me) coaching program. I only take on 4 1-on-1 Clients at any one time.

Over the course of Year One, here’s what we did together–

1️⃣ GAVE HER SOME ENERGY AND TIME BACK IN HER LIFE
We identified unnecessary energy leaks that were draining her precious time and attention. By recognizing and eliminating these energy-draining elements, we freed up valuable resources she needed to embark on her new path.

2️⃣ ACKNOWLEDGED SOME TRULY HARD MOMENTS IN HER LIFE THAT SHE JUST HAD TO SORT OF GET PASSED ON HER OWN
We delved deep into uncovering and processing stuck emotions that were hindering her clarity and obstructing her goals. By addressing and releasing these emotional blocks, she gained a newfound sense of liberation and focus.

3️⃣ GAVE SPACE FOR HER AUTHENTIC SELF TO SHOW UP IN HER CURRENT LIFE
She courageously reconnected with her inner self, the part of her that had been forced to hide and disconnect in order to find safety and belonging during her childhood. This profound reconnection allowed her to access her authentic voice and rediscover her unique passions and purpose.

4️⃣ TOOK A LOOK AT WHERE SHE WAS USING OPPRESSIVE THINKING AGAINST HERSELF
Together, we identified and challenged the internalized and socialized thoughts that had been running on autopilot, keeping her trapped in a cycle of shame, fear, and anxiety. By shedding light on these limiting beliefs, she reclaimed her power and rewrote her own narrative.

5️⃣ ALLOWED HER CREATIVE SIDE TO SHOW UP
We intentionally created open space for her to play, allowing her to tap into her innate creativity and foster a sense of hopefulness. It was within this sacred space that she conceived her brilliant business idea, fueled by her newfound sense of liberation and inspiration.

6️⃣ BUILT A STRONG RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COACH AND COACHEE
Above all, we created a truly safe and nurturing container for her to be honest, open, vulnerable, and free from shame when sharing her thoughts and dreams. In this judgment-free space, she flourished, gaining the confidence and support she needed to fully embrace her entrepreneurial journey.

🌟 Witnessing my client's transformation has been an absolute joy. Her commitment to growth, vulnerability, and self-discovery has paved the way for her to establish her business, even when she had no idea what she was going to create.

And now–

  • she owns her dream business (really she says this all the time)

  • she likes her day job (and is truly grateful for it)

  • she feels good in her body

  • she knows how to create boundaries

  • she knows how to self-coach so her inner critic doesn’t derail her progress (or her day)

  • she sees a really cool future ahead of her where she was just confused

  • she’s making money and getting recognition for her business

  • she’s learning the ins and outs of her own business and what it takes to grow it

  • and a lot more

I’m really proud of her. And if you’re someone who needs more clarity, more connection to purpose and more creativity, this might be a great option for you, too.
